SUPER STAR PATTAM : Flys high:

The movie was rumoured to be loosely based on the Fazil-directed Malayalam classic "Manichitrataazhu", which won Shobhana a National Award for her portrayal of a schizophrenic woman. In fact, the movie is a scene-by-scene adaptation - except for a few changes tailored to fit Rajni - of the original.

Unfortunately, "Chandramukhi" is not "Manichitrataazhu". It is a superstar film - from reel one to the last minute. He is in the thick of it all, starting with when he hits 30 hoodlums out of the screen - vintage Rajni fare that masses expect. Rajnikant as a mind-reading psychiatrist who also possesses Neo's ability to twist his body around bullets? Now, that's an unexpected twist!

STORY:

For the uninitiated, "Chandramukhi" is the story of a house haunted by the ghost of a dancer, who suffered severe depravities at the hands of an evil king (vetiya maharaja) years ago in the same place. Chnadramuki is a beautiful dancer who loves a dances, but the vetiyan king kills him as he like chandramuki, He also she kills her, she thus becomes a ghost and waits for a revenge. But the king prays, brings priest to look that ghost in a room in his house (He fnally dies naturally). When Jothika and prabhu buys the house after 200 yrs, She opens the door (just to know ehats inside - even after many telling nt even to see that place), get inspired by the Ghost story and slowly she becomes Chandramuki. Rajini understands the place initially and finds it without any trouble, so he recommends Prabhu to buy the house, but after she opens that door.... all trouble starts ..... Rajini comes back and solves all the trouble, he projects/maskes him as Vatiyan king in chandramukis mind and make the ghost (chandramuki) avenge him ....... CLIMAX : How he manages to escape from Ghost, how he saves Jothika, how he unites the faily is the climax

Rajni plays the role of Prabhu's psychiatrist friend who attempts to sort the whole sordid mess out. For most of the movie, however, he is the superstar and not his character, Dr. Saravannan. But then Rajni is a treat to watch for the multitudes who worship him and it is unlikely that any other portrayal of the man would be accepted by the audience. If you are a Rajni fan, you'll add Dr. Saravannan to your list of favourite characters - right up there with Annamalai, Padayappa and Baasha.

The movie is as much Jyothika's as it is Rajni's. However, she does not do as good a job of it as Rajni does. In fact, her eye-rolling and eyebrow-raising begin to grate after a while. she saya laka laka laka in the end ..... Which is as catchy as rajini says.

Comic relief is supplied by Vadivelu, whom I would call the villain of the movie - mainly because of his loud, irritating performance that even drowns the superstar's voice in many scenes, not to mention his slapstick comedy that is more likely to find its fans in kindergartens.

Talking of direction, P. Vasu has done a pretty decent job . The music by Vidyasagar is catchy, and Rajni is in his element as he dances away in a sherwani, in red cargos and white trainers, and atop the Alps wearing a colourful shirt and sunglasses.

If you are a fan of the Thalaivar, you've probably already watched the movie by the time this review hits the stands. If not, you can see it once.

+s:

STORY
songs
Thalaivar
Comedy
Final 1/2 hour : CLIMAX

-s:

FIGHT (too much action for this story)
Acting (Rajini looks old)
Jothika acting (Not as shobana)
Tata Indicom advertisement

Overall, its a great story ...... Great stars and great movie to watch, considering Rajinis age, he has done extremely well. Laka laka laka laka stly is great, as vatiyan raja he looks great (almost like 45 not 55). Great songs, good comedy, little ghost style, good show for 3 months take movie. Finally great vasoooooool for rajini, shavaji filims and Vasu. Great fun for lakhs of people too !!

Rajnikant is fabulous and so is manish.

Manish from IIM is IAS examination topper at AIR 5. Proud for the manager community. Good for other MBAs to emulate. Cheers folks.

Railway official from Tamil Nadu is IAS topper

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Railway traffic service official Srinivasan Nagarajan has bagged the top spot in the Union Public Service Commission Civil Services (Main) Examination. The results were announced here on Wednesday.

In all, 422 candidates, including 67 women, have been recommended for appointment. While the top 20 includes six women, 193 candidates have been selected from the general category, including three physically challenged persons, 118 from Other Backward Classes, 64 from Scheduled Castes and 47 from the Scheduled Tribes category. The number of vacancies reported by the Government for IAS, IFS and IPS is 91, 20 and 88, for the Central Services Group `A' 235 and the Central Services Group `B' 19.

It may have been his fourth and last attempt but for Tirunelveli-based Mr. Nagarajan, it could not have ended on a better note. A B.Tech from BITS Pilani, he had sociology and geography as options. Professionals have clearly scored, with the top 10 comprising an engineer, two doctors and an IIM graduate. Basant Garg and Gaurav Uppal are both doctors and hold the second and third ranks this year. Basant has cleared it in his first attempt.

Manish Kumar, ranked fifth, is an IIM graduate. He had to choose between a New York posting with handsome salary and one that would help him serve his own people.

"I decided to take the UPSC exam when I got the offer for a job in New York. Although the money was great, I wanted to do something here. I was not sure if coming back would be easy once I went there, so I decided to write the exam instead. It is my third attempt but I am glad to have finally made it," he said. Interestingly, at least six of the top 10 were trained at an institute here. "We were confident of having our students in the top 10 but six of them, including the top three, was completely unexpected. It has been a brilliant year for us," said Sri Rangam, the man behind the Delhi branch of Sri Ram Institute.
